What Is Blended Mobility?
Blended mobility is a type of Erasmus+ mobility that combines physical mobility with online learning activities. The physical mobility period carried out abroad is complemented by a virtual learning component that supports the learning outcomes of the programme.
Blended mobility may be organised individually or within the scope of Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) jointly developed by several higher education institutions.
Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)
Blended Intensive Programmes are intensive education, teaching and learning programmes jointly developed by higher education institutions for students and staff. They combine a short-term physical mobility period with a compulsory virtual component.
BIPs may include innovative educational methods such as online cooperation, teamwork, research-based learning and interdisciplinary activities. These programmes are expected to provide academic and international added value beyond the courses and training activities already offered by higher education institutions.
The main objectives of Blended Intensive Programmes are to:
- Develop international and interdisciplinary education programmes,
- Support innovative learning and teaching methods,
- Improve online cooperation and teamwork,
- Promote research-based learning,
- Provide more flexible mobility opportunities for students and staff who have limited access to long-term mobility activities.
Main Requirements
A Blended Intensive Programme must meet the following requirements:
- The physical mobility period must last between 5 and 30 days for students and staff participating as learners.
- The programme must include a compulsory virtual component that enables participants to work together online.
- For students, the combined physical and virtual activities must correspond to at least 3 ECTS credits.
- The programme must be jointly developed by at least three higher education institutions from at least three different EU Member States or countries associated with the Erasmus+ Programme.
- At least 10 Erasmus+ mobile learners must participate in the programme for organisational support funding to be granted.
- Organisational support may be calculated for a maximum of 20 eligible mobile participants; however, the total number of participants in the programme is not limited to 20.
BIP Student Grant Support – 2026 Contract Period
Students sent by Ankara Science University to participate in a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) abroad may receive Erasmus+ individual support for the period spent abroad during the physical mobility component of the programme.
The Erasmus+ grant is intended to contribute to the additional expenses arising from the mobility and does not aim to cover all costs incurred by the participant. No separate grant is provided for the compulsory virtual component of the BIP.
Individual Support
Individual support for short-term physical student mobility is calculated as follows:

Where the physical mobility lasts longer than 14 days, the grant is calculated at EUR 79 per day for the first 14 days and EUR 56 per day from the 15th day onwards.
Top-up Support for Participants with Fewer Opportunities
Students with fewer opportunities who meet the relevant eligibility requirements and provide the required supporting documents may receive Top-up Support in addition to their individual support grant.

Travel Grant Support
A travel grant is also provided according to the travel distance to contribute to students’ transportation expenses.
The distance is calculated using the European Commission Distance Calculator and is based on the one-way distance between Ankara and the city in which the physical component of the BIP will take place. The amounts shown in the table represent the total grant for both the outward and return journeys and must not be multiplied by two.

Green travel refers to the use of low-carbon means of transport, such as buses, trains or carpooling. To qualify for green travel support, eligible means of transport must be used for both the outward and return journeys, and more than half of the total journey must be completed using green means of transport.
Where the travel dates are documented, individual support may also be provided for a maximum of 2 travel days for standard travel and a maximum of 6 travel days for green travel.
Additional Information on Grant Allocation
The total grant provided to a student consists of the individual support calculated according to the duration of the physical mobility, the travel grant determined according to the applicable distance band and, where the student is eligible, Top-up Support.
Grant amounts may vary depending on the relevant contract period. Whether a student is selected as a grant-funded or zero-grant participant is determined according to the Erasmus+ budget allocated to our University, the number of places available for the relevant BIP, the provisions of the application announcement and the students’ ranking scores. The final grant amount applicable to the student is specified in the relevant application announcement and in the grant agreement signed with the student.
For participants attending a BIP as staff rather than as students, individual support and travel grants are calculated in accordance with the rules applicable to Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Training or Staff Mobility for Teaching, depending on the type of participation.
