Foreign Language Proficiency

Applicants to the Erasmus+ Programme are required to document their foreign language proficiency with an examination result that meets the conditions specified in the relevant call for applications.

An Erasmus+ foreign language examination for student mobility may be administered by the School of Foreign Languages of Ankara Science University during the relevant application periods. The validity conditions of examinations administered by the University, other accepted foreign language examinations and any minimum passing score are specified separately in each call for applications.

Students may use the results of foreign language examinations administered by Ankara Science University or the results of accepted national and international foreign language examinations, provided that these are included in the relevant call for applications.

Staff applicants may apply using the results of national or international foreign language examinations accepted by Ankara Science University and specified in the relevant call for applications.

The relevant call for applications shall apply with regard to the accepted examination types, the validity period of result documents and the minimum foreign language score.

Language Requirements of the Host Institution

The language of instruction may vary depending on the destination country and the higher education institution. At some institutions, courses may also be delivered in the local language of the country rather than in English.

Therefore, applicants must check the following before applying:

  • The language of instruction at the host institution,
  • The required minimum foreign language level,
  • The accepted examinations and language certificates,
  • The validity period of the language certificate,
  • Any additional language requirements specific to the department or courses.

Being successful in the Erasmus+ selection process conducted by Ankara Science University does not automatically mean that the student meets the foreign language requirements set by the host institution. It is the student’s responsibility to review the application and admission requirements of the host institution.

Online Language Support (OLS)

Online Language Support (OLS) is an online language support service provided by the European Commission to help Erasmus+ participants improve the foreign language skills they will use during their mobility period.

OLS services are provided through the European Commission’s EU Academy platform. Participants may benefit from the language learning content available on the platform before and during their mobility period.

The pre-mobility OLS language assessment is not compulsory for KA131 students and recent graduates. Nevertheless, participants are encouraged to benefit from the opportunities available through EU Academy and OLS in order to improve their foreign language skills.

As the languages, levels and learning content offered within the scope of OLS may change over time, current information should be obtained through EU Academy.

Foreign Language Examination Equivalencies

The equivalency of international foreign language examinations with YDS and other examinations administered by the Measuring, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) is evaluated in accordance with the current equivalency documents published by ÖSYM.

For equivalency procedures, the ÖSYM equivalency document in force on the date of the examination shall apply. Examination results issued by universities, institutes, private language courses or other organisations that are not included in the equivalency documents published by ÖSYM are not accepted within the scope of ÖSYM equivalency.
