Our department began its educational activities in 2020-2021 simultaneously with the establishment of Ankara Science University. Primarily aiming to provide internationally recognized education in English, the Department of Psychology will begin offering instruction in Turkish, our national language, starting in 2022-2023. Our goal is to train competent individuals who are well-equipped in various theoretical and applied areas of psychology, both domestically and internationally.
Since its founding, the Department of Psychology at Ankara Science University has aimed to achieve greater excellence. It has adopted the principle of supporting its academic staff with well-equipped faculty members who have studied at the best universities in our country and are fluent in Turkish and English. In this context, it has recruited faculty members who specialize in core areas of psychology such as Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, and Developmental Psychology or in various intermediary areas. They have both field practice and academic work experience. They are qualified to train students as practitioners who can gain different perspectives beyond their academic skills and adapt to the requirements of their social environment. In addition to providing up-to-date undergraduate education, our faculty members aim to educate students who are capable of conducting scientific research, using their thinking skills meaningfully and creatively, approaching human issues with a questioning, objective, and analytical approach, and who are committed to ethical values.
Currently, our department employs six full-time and six part-time faculty members and two research assistants. To cultivate individuals with the desired qualities, our department has developed its curriculum in accordance with the criteria recommended by the Turkish Psychologists Association. Within this framework, the eight-semester curriculum aims to introduce students to a transition process that will facilitate their adaptation to later academic and professional life through mandatory internships and project preparation assignments implemented in the final semester. Furthermore, aware of the gap between theory and practice in psychology and the need for this field, our department collaborates with public institutions such as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Family and Social Services within Turkey for internships. It also offers educational and internship mobility opportunities abroad through international exchange programs such as Erasmus and supports students' research experiences through TÜBİTAK and BAP projects. All these practical experiences provide students with significant advantages in their transition to professional life while also providing guidance in their career planning.
