26 June, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, is observed to highlight the importance of preventing drug use and combating illicit trafficking. Illicit drugs can have a negative impact on an individual’s physical and mental health, family relationships, and their education and working life. Trafficking, meanwhile, is a major area of crime that threatens public safety. For this reason, raising public awareness and, in particular, supporting children and young people through preventive education programmes are of the utmost importance. Collaboration between families, educational institutions and public bodies contributes to the prevention of addiction. We must act with a sense of shared responsibility to build a healthy, safe and informed society.
