How Can We Help?
Producing any piece of academic writing presents a number of challenges that we hope to identify, and begin to overcome, during the writing sessions:
The Writing Centre is a space to articulate a measurable objective and goal (“I want to write an argumentative article on the cognitive psychological traits of X for X journal; I expect that to take 5-10 pages of writing”). It also sets a timer for writing periods and break periods. The sessions at the Writing Centre can be joined by a small group of peers/co-operators who also share the same goals and commit to write without distraction during the writing blocks. Our Centre creates accountability by sharing progress toward goals at the end of each session, and to share writing struggles, if helpful. The consultant lecturer of the Centre tracks if there are reoccurring reasons you might be distracted from your writing. (Language barrier? Physical needs? Anxiety over grasp of material? Missing data or key sources? Lack of direction or sense of what’s next? Apprehension about writing quality? Other?)
